I was interviewed for the Mainichi Shimbun after a match in a hotel in Maebashi-shi.
 
It is going to appear in a newspaper on this Wednesday or Thursday.

東名高速で静岡に向かう途中 富士山がみえました。

I always recalled in Akasaka ,

the Nippon Budoukan rally and meal with Mr,Baba.

昨日は赤坂にきました。

久しぶりにミスターマサノブフチと一緒です。

赤坂ではいつも武道館大会、あとはミスター馬場との食事を思い出します。

It is the ling shoes which it wore well in 80's.  

 I remember a lot of matches like the yesterday's thing.

80年代によく履いたリングシューズです。

たくさんの試合を昨日の事の様に思い出します。

Today I am as excited about coming to Japan as I was on

my first trip to Japan with my father,Dory Funk Sr.,in 1969

to wrestle Antonio Inoki for the NWA World Championship.

I love Japan and I feel like I belong to two countries,

My home America and my second home, Japan.

I have wrestling friends who were teenagers

when I first came to Japan.

Now I meet their children and grandchildren who are now

my friends.

To all of my wrestling fans, Makoto ni arigato gozaimasu.

I want to thank (Sha Cho) Keiji Mutoh, President of All Japan Pro

Wrestling for the opportunity to have my Sayonara Tour and

final wrestling match in Japan.

I want to thank my student, Osamu Nishimura for being my

partner on my Sayonara Tour and in my final wrestling match

at Sumo Hall in Tokyo.

I want to thank all of my students in All Japan Pro Wrestling

who have carried on the tradition of the

"Dory Funk Method of Professional Wrestling,"

Osamu Nishimura, Masanobu Fuchi, Maunakea Mossman

(Taiyo Kea) and Genichiro Tenryu.

They have dedicated themselves to the highest level of

achievementin professional wrestling.

Some of my best memories in Japan and America are of the matches

and good times with my friend and student, Jumbo Tsuruta.

I want to thank my wife, Marti Funk, who has worked so hard to

preserve and continue my career in professional wrestling.

I request that all of my Japanese friends and family join Marti

and myself on the Sayonara Tour and especially the last night

at Sumo Hall where we can all say together, "Well Done."

今、私は1969年にアントニオ猪木選手とNWA世界選手権を戦うために父であるドリー・ファンク・シニアと共に日本に最初に行ったときのような興奮をしております。

私は日本の事が大好きで、まるで第二の故郷のように感じています。

私は一番最初に日本に訪れた際に10代のレスリングの仲間と出会いました。今彼らは子供や孫がいる世代になりました。レスリングファンの皆様、マコトニ　アリガトウ　ゴザイマス。

この度、日本での最後のツアー・引退試合を行うチャンスを与えてくれた全日本プロレスの武藤敬司社長に心から感謝しています。

サヨナラツアー・両国での私の引退試合でタッグパートナーを勤める弟子、西村修にも感謝しています。

全日本プロレスにおいてドリー・ファンクがこれまでに作り上げてきた伝統的なプロレスを継承し活躍する西村修・渕正信・太陽ケヤ・そして天龍源一郎にも感謝いたします。彼らはプロレスラーとして自身の持つ最高レベルの技術を駆使し、これまで偉大な足跡を残しています。

弟子であり友人でもあったジャンボ鶴田とは、日米を通じてたくさんの素晴らしい思い出がいくつもあります。

そして私のプロレスラーとしての人生を支えてくれた妻であるマーティー・ファンクにも心から感謝しています。

日本のファンであり友人である皆様、私と妻マーティーと一緒にサヨナラツアーと引退試合となる両国国技館で心を一つにし共に燃え尽きましょう。

最後に、私とタッグパートナーとなる西村修から、渕・天龍にメッセージを送ります。
